John Metcalf’s Endless Song is probably his most popular and best known work. As well as being a striking concert piece it is also within reach of good amateur pianists. Endless Song was written in a single day in May 1999 in the artists’ colony at the Banff Centre Canada. It has been performed hundreds of times all around the world and recorded on Chandos disc of the same name by Margaret Fingerhut. The You Tube video of Ivan Ilic playing the work recorded in Washington DC in May 2007 has, at the time of writing, been listened to 26,844 times
