Update 2025

The last few years have been a whirlwind of music, collaboration, and unexpected challenges. In 2021, I composed Towards Silence to a private commission from Carol Nixon and participated in an online symposium about my work at Bangor University. A choral piece, Hallelujah, written during the pandemic, finally had its premiere in June 2022 at St David’s Hall, performed by the wonderful Ardwyn Singers in a concert celebrating the life and work of conductor and music educator Helena Braithwaite.

In 2022, the Vale of Glamorgan Festival, where I served as Artistic Director, celebrated the music of John Luther Adams, inviting the virtuosic percussion quartet Sandbox from New York to perform.

In 2023, I created a new transcription of Hallelujah for the Amsterdam Cello Octet, which was performed at the Vale of Glamorgan Festival. A new work, Songs Without Words, consisting of three movements: ‘Song for Strata Florida’, ‘Hallelujah’, and ‘Prelude and Hymn’, premiered in June at the magical Nantwen Festival in West Wales. Hearing it come to life in performance was a joy, and I am incredibly grateful to the musicians who brought it to life in both the vocal and instrumental versions.

Last year brought personal difficulties and ill health. I am thankful for the support of friends, colleagues, and audiences during these challenging times, and I eagerly anticipate the new creative paths that lie ahead. At the time of writing, I am looking forward to the European premiere of Septet on 21st April 2025 at the Museum Erding near Munich, performed by harpist Barbara Pöschl-Edrich.
